Coastal flood advisory runs from Friday morning to Tuesday noon
The National Weather Service has a coastal flood advisory for the San Diego County coast from 4 a.m. Friday until noon Tuesday. Forecasters expect minor to locally moderate flooding of beach parking lots, parks and low roads, with only a few road closures. The highest water comes with the late morning high tide each day, peaking at 7.4 to 7.6 feet on Sunday and Monday. That’s 1.3 to 1.6 feet above the predicted tide.
Today the concern is rip currents. The risk is high along the county coast, with surf of 3 to 5 feet and water around 71 to 76 degrees. It drops to moderate on Friday, and the surf is expected to pick up again Monday.
Swim near a lifeguard tower today. This weekend, avoid the lowest beach lots around the late morning high tide, and don’t drive through standing water or around barricades. Our flooding and road alerts guide explains where to check conditions.

Warmer each day through Sunday, with Santa Ana winds Friday and Saturday
The weather service expects a high near 77 downtown today, 81 on Friday, 86 on Saturday and 88 on Sunday, and some places could reach 90 on Sunday. Santa Ana winds pick up Friday and Saturday, gusting around 25 to 40 mph in the passes, canyons and foothills. On Friday the strongest wind is expected near the Cajon Pass and the Santa Ana Mountains, and on Saturday it moves to the San Diego County mountains.
Temperatures ease slowly starting Monday. Forecasters give a 15 to 20% chance of rain beginning next Thursday, though they say the models still disagree on timing and amounts.
Plan hikes and yard work for the morning this weekend, bring water and never leave kids or pets in a parked car. Our November weather guide has packing tips.

South Bay beaches stay closed, but most rain advisories have been lifted
The County’s beach and bay water quality map now lists 10 closures and 11 advisories. On Wednesday it showed 97 advisories. All 10 closures are in the South Bay: Cortez Avenue, the pier, Carnation Avenue and the end of Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach, two Silver Strand State Beach stations closed since Oct. 30, and four stations at Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Slough refuge that have been closed since October 2025.
Advisories are still posted at La Jolla Cove, Children’s Pool, five Mission Bay swim areas, and Tidelands Park and Glorietta Bay in Coronado. The two newest, both dated Nov. 5, are at the Tourmaline drain outlet in Pacific Beach and the end of Marine Street in La Jolla.
Check your beach at sdbeachinfo.com or call the County hotline at 619-338-2073 before you swim or surf. Our San Diego beaches guide and best beaches list can help you pick a spot with clean water.

San Ysidro border lanes reopen after a Wednesday night shooting
Lanes heading into Mexico at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, along with southbound Camino de la Plaza, were shut Wednesday night after a chase of a stolen car that started in Riverside County ended in a shooting near the border, NBC 7 reports. The California Highway Patrol reopened the crossing and the road early Thursday. San Diego police arrested a suspect and are still investigating.
While the lanes were closed, CHP told border crossers to use the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, and Caltrans sent traffic to SR-905.
The crossing is open this morning. If you’re heading south today, check the latest traffic before you leave and keep Otay Mesa in mind as a backup. Our San Diego safety guide covers border trips in more detail.

Two connectors close overnight tonight, and one more early Saturday
From 10 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m., Caltrans closes the eastbound I-8 connector to northbound SR-67 for bridge work. Stay on I-8, exit at Mollison Avenue, turn left and take the westbound I-8 connector to SR-67. From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., striping work also closes the northbound I-15 connector to eastbound SR-56 and Ted Williams Parkway, the matching Express Lanes connector, and the Express Lanes exits to the Sabre Springs Parkway ramp in both directions. The detour uses Carmel Mountain Road and southbound I-15.
Tonight is the last night for the westbound SR-94 connector to northbound I-5 closure, which runs 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Exit at 25th Street and follow F Street to the I-5 on-ramp. Early Saturday, from 3 to 8 a.m., the northbound SR-75 connector to northbound I-5 closes for drainage cleaning. Caltrans sends drivers through the National Avenue/27th Street exit instead.
If you drive late at night, look at Caltrans QuickMap before you leave and allow a few extra minutes. Our getting around San Diego guide has other ways to get across town.

Rapid 235 skips two I-15 stations today and Friday, plus weekend bus stop changes
Caltrans is working in the I-15 bus lane, so northbound Rapid 235 buses won’t stop at the I-15 centerline stations at El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue today from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Southbound buses skip the same two stations Friday during the same hours. MTS suggests catching Route 60 at the nearby I-15 ramp stops.
On Friday from 7 to 10 a.m., the Route 10 stops at Pacific Highway and Washington Street and at Washington Street by the trolley tracks may close for the MCRD graduation. Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the westbound stop at Broadway and Park Boulevard for Routes 2, 225, 235 and 923 is closed for road repairs, so board a block west between 10th and 11th avenues. Route 6 also detours off North Park Way on Saturday for the North Park Community Fair and on Sunday for the Soul Real Market, though it won’t miss any stops.
Check the MTS alerts page for live changes before you head out. The MTS information line is 619-233-3004, and our getting around guide explains fares and routes.

Measures A and B still lead narrowly, with the next count at 6 p.m. tonight
Both countywide measures were ahead in Wednesday night’s results, City News Service reported on NBC 7. Measure B, the half-cent sales tax for health care, Tijuana River sewage cleanup, and wildfire prevention and 911 response, had 51.62% yes. Measure A, which would create an independent ethics commission, budget analyst and program auditor and let supervisors serve three terms instead of two, had 51.68% yes.
The Registrar of Voters posts its next updates at 6 p.m. today and Friday, then by 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Nothing is official until the canvass wraps up, which is expected by Dec. 3.
Prices won’t change while the count goes on. You can follow each update at sdvote.com, and our living in San Diego guide covers other everyday costs.
